I’ve been promising new, free music for a while now in the form of my upcoming mixtape, Cassette Trippin’…but this isn’t that. Unforeseen obstacles have come between me and the mixtape’s eventual release date, but rest assured that you’ll get it in your hands as soon as possible.

Until then, here’s a song that sounds nothing like Cassette Trippin’ at all: “Conservation of Matter,” written, produced, and performed by De La Soul’s least favorite De La Soul song—which is to say, by Me, Myself, and I. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go see Plugs One through Three in concert sometime. They’ll probably clear it up for you.

Anyone who wonders why San Diego’s Comic-Con is the largest convention in the Western hemisphere, look up. That’s why. From the footage that local news outlets were running of the convention floor, you would think this year’s theme was T & A. God bless the nerds and their weirdo libidos.

Vulture Crash: Culture Out of Context

Exhibit 1: Mystery Gum (Product Name Unknown)

I bought this chewing gum at one of my local shops. It’s made by Lotte, which I believe is a Korean company. I could look into it further, but as I’ve said before, what kind of blog would this be if I did research?

The gum is intriguing for a number of reasons, not the least of which is its colorful packaging. Even though I’m at a total loss to read the wrapper or to determine its contents, my initial reaction is to fall back on the universal law of food packaging–namely, that the product will taste like whatever is pictured on the package (hence, a bottle of ketchup boasts a shiny tomato). By that logic, this gum should taste like one of three things: jingle bells, anthropomorphic cats, or gold anthropomorphic cats. I just had to try it.

Looks like casting has finally begun for the next Superman film. I, for one, am glad that they decided to go a different way with it. It’s about goddamn time. In other news, it’s also time for this week’s batch of comic books! Wednesday brings another flood of colored paper our way, so let’s see what I’ll be rescuing from the deluge.
